London Drugs Dual-Fuel Rooftop Retrofit

Anthem Properties · Mission, BC

When the rooftop units on this Anthem Properties building in Mission reached end of life, the easy path was a like-for-like gas and electric replacement. Alpine quoted that, then offered a better option: dual-fuel rooftop units.

For the building owner the math was simple. The old equipment was timing out. Replacing it with a dual-fuel system meant rebate dollars on the way in and a more efficient system from day one.

Engineered for performance

A standard rooftop format, a smarter heating source.

A dual-fuel RTU is a standard rooftop package, but with a heat pump as the primary heating and cooling source and a smaller gas furnace as backup. In the milder months it runs on the heat pump, down to around 0 Celsius, then switches to gas only for the coldest stretches. The result is lower carbon, lower operating cost in the right utility conditions, and the same reliable rooftop format the building already used.

Because the project went dual-fuel, it qualified for a FortisBC rebate of up to 30 percent on the equipment. The units are Lennox, and the install took about four days, with no disruption to the tenant below. While on the roof, our team also serviced the building's existing AAON units for a neighbouring tenant.
