Commercial HVAC Rebates Chilliwack & Fraser Valley | FortisBC & BC Hydro

No Inflated Numbers.

No Guesswork.

Most commercial HVAC rebate money in the Fraser Valley comes from FortisBC and BC Hydro, not a government CleanBC program. We pull together the programs that are actually open, what they pay, and who qualifies, so you can size up your project before you spend a dollar. Most require a licensed installer and a pre-approved application, so talk to us before you buy.

How It Works

We handle the rebates and the paperwork.

Commercial rebates are not self-serve. They need pre-approval, licensed installers, and the right equipment on the eligible list. We run that process so the money is there when the job is done.

01

Scope the project

We assess your building, your equipment, and which programs your project can stack. Commercial rebates reward efficiency tiers, so the spec drives the dollars.

02

Pre-approve before you buy

Most commercial rebates require pre-approval and an eligible-product check before you commit. We handle the application up front so the rebate is locked in, not hoped for.

03

Install to program spec

We install to the program requirements - efficiency tiers, controls, climate-zone switchover lockouts - so the rebate holds up when it is reviewed.

04

Submit and get paid

We file the paperwork with paid invoices and spec sheets, inside the program deadlines, so the rebate actually lands in your account.

Dual-Fuel Rooftop Unit Rebate

Our flagship commercial rebate - up to $225,000 per building.

Dual-fuel rooftop units pair an electric heat pump with a gas burner: electric through the mild months, gas for the cold snaps. FortisBC pays 30% of the total project cost per premise, up to $150,000 for standard-efficiency units and up to $225,000 for condensing-efficiency units.

What's available

  • 30% of total project cost, calculated per building (not per unit)
  • Up to $225,000 per building (condensing efficiency) or $150,000 (standard efficiency)
  • Existing commercial or industrial buildings, and new construction
  • Requires a FortisBC natural gas account (any rate class except Rate 1) and a Technical Safety BC licensed installer

Note: Updated rates apply to invoices dated on or after July 4, 2025. Apply within 365 days of the paid invoice (or occupancy, for new construction).

Commercial Gas Boiler & Heating-System Rebates

For buildings that run on gas hot-water or steam boilers, FortisBC rebates new high-efficiency boilers for process heat, plus retrofits that squeeze more out of the boilers you already have.

What's available

  • High-efficiency gas boiler rebate: up to $45,000 per boiler (90%+ thermal efficiency) - for process-heat uses like food processing and greenhouses
  • Heating-system optimization (condensing economizers, combustion tuning): up to 75% of the measure cost on existing gas equipment
  • Requires a FortisBC natural gas account (any rate class except Rate 1)

Note: The $45,000 boiler rebate is for process heating, not space heating, domestic hot water, or pool / backup boilers. We confirm which measures your building qualifies for.

HVAC & Building Controls Rebates

Controls are the cheapest efficiency you can buy. FortisBC pays per-measure rebates for smart thermostats, advanced rooftop-unit controls, demand-control ventilation, economizers, and building energy management systems.

What's available

  • Per-measure rebates from about $40 to $1,500+ (advanced RTU controls run roughly $200 to $350 per ton)
  • Smart thermostats, demand-control ventilation, economizers, and building energy management systems
  • Runs through a FortisBC natural gas commercial account (Rate 2 or 3) - the FortisBC electricity path is Interior-only and does not apply in the Fraser Valley

Custom Efficiency Program

Up to $500,000 for engineered commercial retrofits.

For larger, engineered retrofits that go beyond the standard rebates, FortisBC funds a detailed energy study and then pays a custom implementation incentive based on the gas you actually save.

What's available

  • Energy study funding: up to 50% of the study cost (maximum $20,000 for commercial buildings)
  • Implementation incentives up to $500,000 for commercial projects, based on verified energy savings
  • Requires a FortisBC natural gas account and a project that can save at least 1,000 GJ of gas per year

Note: You must use a FortisBC-approved consultant and get written FortisBC approval before the work starts.

BC Hydro Business Energy-Saving Incentives

BC Hydro's core program for commercial retrofits. In the Fraser Valley your electricity comes from BC Hydro, so this is the route for commercial electric heat-pump and equipment rebates. It funds add-on HVAC upgrades (plus lighting and refrigeration) for smaller commercial and light-industrial sites, with the work done by a BC Hydro Alliance member - which we are.

What's available

  • Past participants received roughly 40% of upfront costs on average
  • A 30% bonus incentive applies to qualifying projects submitted before February 11, 2027
  • Best for sites under 500 MWh per year; projects need pre-approval before work begins

Federal Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit

A federal refundable tax credit that stacks on top of BC utility rebates. It covers eligible clean technology - including air-source and ground-source heat pumps - claimed through your corporate tax return.

What's available

  • Up to 30% of the capital cost of eligible heat-pump equipment in service through 2033 (15% in 2034)
  • Stacks with FortisBC and BC Hydro rebates
  • For taxable Canadian corporations, not individuals - confirm eligibility with your accountant

Note: A tax credit claimed on your corporate return, not a point-of-sale rebate. The 30% rate requires meeting the federal prevailing-wage and apprenticeship requirements; otherwise it is 20%.

Rebate amounts and eligibility are set by FortisBC, BC Hydro, and the federal government and can change without notice. We confirm the current numbers for your specific project before you commit.

Chilliwack, BC · Since 1969

The mountain on our wall.
The standard in our work.

Freshly painted across our Chilliwack shop, the mural is a new Fraser Valley landmark, and a fitting one. Local artist Jack Hensby brought the mountain to life, and it will feature in the Chilliwack Mural Festival. The peak has been our namesake since 1969, and it is the standard we bring to every install, service call, and 2 AM emergency. We back the local community the way it has backed us.
