Ductless mini split systems are widely used in areas such as Europe and Asia, and are rapidly gaining popularity in North America.
Since they don't require ducts and vents throughout the home, they have a lower installation cost than any conventional heating or cooling system.

Ductless splits function to heat and cool your home in a stylish, contemporary manner.

If your home is an older home, and you're worried about damaging the integrity of the building or keeping the home in its original condition, ductless splits may be the right choice for you.
These units are incredibly efficient, and since they operate on electricity, they have no carbon emissions.
The main advantages of ductless splits are the small size, and the flexibility of application and installation.
They can be used for zoning, and for heating or cooling individual rooms. Each zone will have its own thermostat, so you can condition the space when it's occupied. This allows for energy saving; when the space isn't being used, you can simply power the ductless split off.
Choosing the right system for residential or office heating and cooling needs can sometimes seem overwhelming.
Alpine Refrigeration can install and design systems that will exceed your requirements and expectations.
Ductless splits come in many varieties and styles. Their aesthetic designs range from a sleek picture frame to a notice-me-not thin mount to more robust designs.
Regardless of aesthetic choice, each ductless split can heat and cool a large volume cost efficiently.
If you require a custom system, Alpine Refrigeration can design a ductless split system specifically for your needs.

The world's most efficient mini-split systems – more than twice as efficient as the minimum standard set by the government.
A comfortable house helps everyone feel at home. Only pay to heat and cool the rooms you're occupying.
A simple push of a button on the remote control allows you to switch from heating to cooling (or vice versa) automatically.
More than 99.99% have never had to be replaced or removed from where they've been installed during the life expectancy of the unit.
Ductless splits eliminate the need for a basement or attic-located evaporator unit and bulky ductwork by using thin copper tubing.
Our heating and cooling systems come in a variety of sizes and indoor unit styles to match your home's aesthetic.

"A great company to deal with. Both the original installer of our air conditioner and another company that had a look at our air conditioner told us we had no warranty on our product. Alpine did the leg work to find out that we did in fact have manufacture's warranty on our unit and had the coil covered under warranty saving us hundreds of dollars. They went above and beyond."

A ductless mini split system consists of two main components: an outdoor compressor/condenser unit and one or more indoor air-handling units. These components are connected by a conduit that houses the refrigerant tubing, power cable, suction tubing, and a condensate drain. The outdoor unit pumps refrigerant through the lines to the indoor unit, which then distributes conditioned air directly into the room.
Unlike traditional forced-air systems, ductless splits require no ductwork whatsoever. Installation only requires a small three-inch hole through an exterior wall to connect the indoor and outdoor units, making it far less invasive than installing a conventional ducted system. This also eliminates the energy losses commonly associated with ductwork, which can account for up to 30% of energy consumption in a typical home.
Ductless systems provide both heating and cooling through a reversible refrigerant cycle. In cooling mode, the indoor unit absorbs heat from the room air and transfers it outside through the refrigerant lines. In heating mode, the process reverses: the outdoor unit extracts heat from the outside air, even in cold temperatures, and delivers it indoors. Modern ductless heat pumps can operate efficiently in temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius, making them suitable for year-round comfort in the Fraser Valley climate.
Each indoor unit is controlled independently with its own remote control or wall-mounted thermostat, allowing precise temperature management in each room without affecting other areas of the home.
A single-zone ductless system pairs one outdoor unit with one indoor unit, making it ideal for heating and cooling a single room or open-concept area. These systems are the most affordable option, with installation costs typically ranging from $3,500 to $5,500 depending on the unit capacity and installation complexity. Single-zone systems are perfect for home additions, converted garages, bonus rooms, or any space where supplemental heating and cooling is needed without extending existing ductwork.
Because only one indoor unit is involved, single-zone systems are simpler to install, require less maintenance, and are highly efficient for targeted comfort in specific areas of your home.
Multi-zone systems connect a single outdoor unit to two, three, four, or even five indoor units, each installed in a different room. This configuration allows independent temperature control in each zone, so every family member can set their preferred comfort level. Multi-zone systems typically cost between $7,000 and $15,000 depending on the number of zones and unit sizes selected.
Multi-zone ductless systems are the best choice when you want whole-home heating and cooling without ductwork, or when you need to condition multiple rooms simultaneously. They are commonly used in older homes, heritage properties, and multi-level residences where running ductwork would be impractical or too costly. Alpine Refrigeration can help you determine the right number of zones for your home.
Ductless mini split systems are especially well-suited for rooms and spaces that are difficult or expensive to connect to existing ductwork. Home additions and newly finished basements are among the most common installations, as extending your current HVAC system to these areas often costs more than installing a dedicated ductless unit.
Converted garages, bonus rooms above garages, and sunrooms are also excellent candidates for ductless systems. These spaces tend to experience extreme temperature fluctuations because they are often poorly insulated or located far from the main HVAC unit. A ductless split provides efficient, targeted climate control exactly where it is needed.
Older homes in the Fraser Valley that were built without ductwork benefit tremendously from ductless technology. Rather than tearing into walls and ceilings to install ducts, a ductless system can be mounted with minimal disruption, preserving the character and structure of the home while delivering modern comfort and energy efficiency.
